We assess an applicant's candidacy in three areas

Academic Ability

Applicants must be prepared for the rigor of STEM High School classes and have demonstrated a history of academic achievemenst and desire for challenge. We look for dedication to academic pursuits and intellectual curiosity by assessing:

  • Grades (over time)
  • Rigor of current academic program
  • School type and curriculum
  • Academic classes taken outside the student’s school
  • Teacher recommendations
  • Personal essays

Personal Qualities

We select students who will become contributing members of the STEM High School community and who will engage in the life of the school and its extracurricular pursuits. We look for this level of engagement by assessing:

  • Personal essays
  • Current extracurricular involvement
  • Demonstrated leadership in student’s current school community
  • Teacher recommendations
  • Parent questionnaire

A good fit

The Admissions Committee seeks students who demonstrate a clear understanding of the STEM High School’s teaching model and show independence, self-advocacy, strong time-management skills, and appropriate maturity. We assess this in:

  • Personal essays
  • Teacher recommendations
  • Parent questionnaire

Complete Application

A complete application consists of the following:

  • Application form
  • Academic records.
    Transcripts from this year and the past two years. Unofficial copies are acceptable)
  • 2 Essays, max 400 words
  • One sample of analytical writing.
    Work samples must have been completed within the past year and must demonstrate student's best effort.
  • Two online recommendation forms.
    One from a sponsor on the Humanities/Social Sciences and other from a Math/Science sponsor
  • Parent questionnaire
  • Standarized Test Score (Optional)
  • Video essay (Optional)
  • Application fee.

Scholarships

STEM High School awards scholarships to accepted students that have shown academic excellency and real need for the support. A written application should be submitted to the Scholarships Committee, which will evaluate it on academic, artistic or sports merits and the economic situation of the applicant. Scholarships will range from 20 to 80% of the fees.

The application should be requested directly to the Headmaster via email and be submitted to the Headmaster's Office with all supporting documentation via email before the deadline. The application will then be evaluated by the Committee, and results will be distributed via email.
